A Room with a View - the actors

Simon Callow

A fabulous actor who also played a great role in Four weddings and a funeral(imdb) (he took care of the "funeral" part...). He has also written a biography of Orson Welles. In A Room with a View he is just the kind of priest I like...

Check him out in The Internet Movie Database.

Helena Bonham Carter

The perfect actress to play the beautiful woman trying to find out what she wants with her life. Have a look at Michael Furmaniuk's, or David Averill-Pence's Helena Bonham Carter page, or just look her up in The Internet Movie Database.

Daniel Day-Lewis

Irritating as he may be, Cecil Vyse is probably trying to do his best. Day-Lewis is at his best... Have you tried The Internet Movie Database?

Denholm Elliott

Someone, sometime said something like this: "never be in the same scene with a kid, an animal or Denholm Elliott". No matter what unimportant role he has, he is sure to be remembered. In A Room with a View he represents common sense and love for life, together with his son George and Freddie Honeychurch, and he is wonderful, as always.

He is also mentioned in The Internet Movie Database.

Rupert Graves

Rupert Graves gives a memorable performance as Lucy's brother Freddy. He is almost shining with lust for life. His performance alone is worth the ticket money. For some strange reason, I have seen him in only four other movies yet, Maurice, The Madness of King George, A Handful of Dust and Different for girls. The Madness of King George is actually seen from Graves' character's point of view, while in Madness and Dust Graves plays people who are not very often on the screen, but are tremendously important to the plot. I will surely look out for him...

He got the Best Actor Award at the 1996 Montreal Film Festival for his performance in Intimate Relations (which movie I have not seen). At the same festival Different for girls got the award for the best movie. Here Rupert is playing a man who meets a friend from school, who has had a sex-change-operation since the last time they saw each other. Rupert is confused and brilliant.

Rupert graves has his own official homepage!

You could also look at the Rupert Graves home page, look him up in The Internet Movie Database.

Rupert Graves has grown increasingly popular over the past year or two, and suddenly Rupert-related pages (and even mailing-lists) pop up everywhere. Here are some of them:

(I have been asked by email if I know Rupert Graves' sexual orientation. Bad news for all of us men: he seems to be straight. And bad news for women: he is not single. This according to an interview in The Times April 4th, 1997.)

Julian Sands

Julian Sands does an alright job, but perhaps disappears a little between the brilliant performances of the others. Look him up in The Internet Movie Database. Also check out the Julian Sands Homepage.

(I have received angry email from people who claim that Julian Sands do more than "an alright job" - that his performance is the reason to see the film. I disagree, but accept that I may not have given him the attention he deserved - I will try to do that next time I see it...). (After writing this I have also received emails supporting me. The Internet is beautiful!)

Maggie Smith

What an upbringing, what a youth and what a life Miss Bartlett must have had! And what a feat to convey this life to us so easily! Look her up in The Internet Movie Database
